Tate Modern Director to deliver inaugural Mendel International Lecture

Saskatoon, Canada – Remai Modern will host the first-ever Mendel International Lecture on June 5 with a keynote address from Frances Morris, Director of Tate Modern in London.

I can’t think of a better way to kick off this new project than with a talk from Frances Morris,” said Gregory Burke, Remai Modern’s Executive Director & CEO. “Frances has had a huge impact on Tate Modern and, in turn, the larger art community. She helped fill significant gaps in Tate Modern’s collection, adding work by major international artists, and has presented exhibitions that developed our knowledge of major women artists of the 20th and 21st century. She has also been instrumental in developing new ways to present complex ideas in the field of modern and contemporary art.”

Morris will speak on collection development and devising a radical display strategy for the new Tate Modern. The lecture will be followed by a dinner on Remai Modern’s rooftop terrace. Tickets for both events are sold out. Proceeds from this unique event will support future Mendel International Lectures.

The Mendel International Lecture recognizes the legacy of the Mendel Art Gallery – and Mendel family – and will bring thought-leaders to Remai Modern to share ideas that will help set a new direction for our community and the art world.
