Ron and Honya Olson
Ron and Honya Olson have been helping to build Saskatoon—literally and figuratively—for decades. Now they are helping to build Remai Modern as well, with their generous donation of $50,000.
The Olsons are part of the Boychuk Construction team started by Honya’s father, Mike, in 1945. They met when Ron joined the family business in 1979, and married in 1982. Ron is now the company’s General Manager, and they reflect proudly on more than 9,000 units built by Boychuk in Saskatoon.
The Olsons have four children and five grandchildren. They want Saskatoon to be a vibrant city for their family and for other families, as well. In addition to Remai Modern, they are also supporters of Children’s Wish Foundation and Ronald McDonald House.
“From both a family and a company standpoint, we believe in Remai Modern and what it means to Saskatoon,” says Honya a retired teacher and principal. “The arts play an important role in a community, and this museum is for everyone, young and old.”
“We’re so pleased to be involved in supporting Remai Modern,” says Ron. “Saskatoon has been very good to us, and we are happy to give back.”
Their donation was motivated by the generosity of Ellen Remai, the museum’s lead patron, Honya emphasizes. “She’s an amazing individual, and her vision inspired us to give, too.”
