Remai Modern to host first major hometown exhibition by Saskatoon-born artist Zachari Logan
For immediate release — August 16, 2021
SASKATOON, CANADA — Remai Modern is pleased to present a new body of work by Zachari Logan. Ghost Meadows opens in the museum’s Connect Gallery on August 21 and includes meticulously detailed drawings and hand-built ceramics that draw on the natural world.
The exhibition marks the Saskatoon-born artist’s first major solo exhibition in his hometown.
“Zachari has seen tremendous success in his career, showing work around the world. I’ve had the great pleasure of watching him work over the past ten years, and I continue to be impressed by his energy and thoughtfulness, and his thorough and ever-evolving investigation of plant life and the human body,” said Sandra Fraser, Curator (Collections). “We are excited at Remai Modern to be the first to exhibit this new body of work and share it with a hometown audience.”
In Ghost Meadows, Logan continues his dialogue with art historical and literary references, and his ongoing engagement with queer ecologies and aesthetics. The exhibition includes large-scale drawings. During opening weekend, Logan will create a large drawing directly on the wall, live in the gallery space. Visit Remai Modern on Saturday and Sunday to see the artistic process as it unfolds.
Logan first gained attention with his life-size self-portraits exploring masculinity and beauty, followed by dense tapestries of native Saskatchewan plants and self-portraits in a state of metamorphosis with various plants and animals. His new work is lyrical and poetic, evoking the body only through gesture and implied movement.
The exhibition coincides with the publication of the artist’s first book of poetry, A Natural History of Unnatural Things, which comes out in September.
Ghost Meadows is on view in the Connect Gallery until January 9, 2022. The Connect Gallery is always free thanks to the generous support of TD.
