Remai Modern appoints Lynn McMaster as interim CEO

For immediate release — April 11, 2019

Saskatoon, Canada — Lynn McMaster, a museum administrator with 30 years of experience in the cultural and education sectors, has been tapped as Remai Modern’s interim CEO.

Originally from Regina, McMaster was most recently CEO at Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia. She also held leadership roles at the Canadian Museum of Civilization and its affiliate the Canadian Children’s Museum.

“Lynn is uniquely qualified to lead Remai Modern through this transition phase. She has experience navigating organizations through big changes and has a wealth of fiscal, strategic, team building and business development knowledge specific to the museum sector,” said Beau Atkins, Remai Modern’s interim Board Chair. “She has a reputation for innovative thinking and has long championed the importance of arts education and cultural institutions.”

At Please Touch, McMaster led a team of more than 120 staff. She served as interim CEO in 2013 and held the role of President & CEO from 2014 to 2016. During that time she led the organization through a critical and successful financial restructuring.

Her background includes working with boards, committees, partners, funders, volunteers, cultural communities and external audiences. She has directed, planned, evaluated and delivered a diverse range of innovative exhibitions, programs, products, publications and services.

“I am so pleased to join the team at Remai Modern, a museum with a growing reputation both in Canada and beyond,” said McMaster. “It’s an exciting time in the museum’s history and I look forward to contributing to Remai Modern’s momentum as a community hub and a destination for visitors.”

McMaster’s appointment as interim CEO of Remai Modern is effective immediately. She joins interim COO Celene Anger, who started in February. She will work closely with the Board and staff to ensure a smooth transition during the search for a new permanent leader.
