Today’s activity is inspired by artist Sara Cwynar. Combining collage and sculpture we will create a mini photo booth. You can use this booth to photograph small objects from your home, such as toys, jewelry or other keepsakes.
Artist Bio
Sara Cwynar uses photography, collage and film in her artwork. She collects images from a variety of sources, such as magazines, eBay and old photo albums. Cwynar is interested in images that are popular and desirable. By placing them in new contexts she prompts viewers to question why we value such images. Cwynar was born in Vancouver and now lives in Brooklyn, New York.
Supply List
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Collage papers (magazines, flyers, newspapers, etc.)
- Heavy paper, card stock, or lightweight cardboard
- Colouring supplies such as markers, crayons, or pencil crayons
- Small objects from your home such as toys, coins, leaves, etc.
- Pencil
- Optional: ruler
Instructions
- Fold your card stock in half
- Fold the bottom of the card stock upwards, around 2-3 inches
- Cut the vertical fold from the bottom to the horizontal fold, around 2-3 inches
- Cut out a square on another piece of cardstock for the floor
- Cut collage pieces to desired shapes and sizes
- Colour background
- Glue collage images
- Overlap and glue bottom-middle corner
- Glue floor
- Place small objects in the photo booth
- Take a variety of photos
