I grew up on the south end of Jackrabbit St. in Lebret. I’ve have known Roger Pelletier so long that I can’t remember not knowing him.
Lebret is where my earliest conscious memories were formed and my childhood and adult life were greatly influenced by the Michif culture of that community. Like a majority of Michif families from Lebret my family relocated to Regina when I was thirteen years old. Fortunately, many Michif families and individuals managed to stay connected.
In my early twenties I became involved in the Michif/Metis struggle and spent much of my life advocating for better opportunities for our people particularly in the area of Adult and Post-Secondary Education and other issues as well.
I spent 29 years working for the Gabriel Dumont Institute on campus at the University of Saskatchewan as Program Co-ordinator of the Saskatchewan Urban Native Teacher Education Program (SUNTEP). I retired in 2019 however remain in touch with many SUNTEP alumni and active in many other areas of interest.
Roger Pelletier
I am a Metis man who was born in Lebret in the early 1950’s, and then moved to Regina with my Métis family in the 1960’s. I have many good memories of growing up in Lebret in the coulee and living on the Métis farm at Lebret. Murray and I have shared many adventures and stories over the years, and we have remained connected throughout our lives. In my 20’s I became a social worker and had some great jobs working with youth and families with Social Services, FSIN, and numerous other organizations until my retirement a few years ago. The Michif/Métis sense of humour, storytelling and music have been an integral part of who I am with my large wonderful Métis family.
