An Elephant Sitting Still, Hu Bo
In the northern Chinese city of Manzhouli, they say there is an elephant that simply sits and ignores the world. Manzhouli becomes an obsession for the protagonists of this film, a longed-for escape from the downward spiral in which they find themselves. Over the course of a single, suspenseful day, the troubled lives of four desperate people unfold in this resonant film about the human condition in director Hu Bo’s first and, tragically, final feature.
This screening of An Elephant Sitting Still will start at 6 PM rather than Cinema at the Museum’s regular 7 PM showtime.
