To encourage strong, long–term relationships and lifelong learning, the ARTforLIFE program partners the Mendel Art Gallery with Saskatoon Community Schools to collaborate on significant projects over a three–year period. These projects, which take place within the school, the Mendel, and the community at large, offer students an opportunity to discover the dynamics of art from fresh perspectives. The widespread success of ARTforLIFE has Saskatoon Community Schools eagerly anticipating their turn to partner with the Mendel.

With support from the Affinity Credit Union, the Mendel launched ARTforLIFE at the start of the 2001 school year with WP Bate Community School as its first partner. Subsequently, we have welcomed Mount Royal Collegiate, St. Maria Goretti Community School, City Park Collegiate, Pleasant Hill Community School, St. John Community School, and our newest partner, Nutana Collegiate . Our many activities for students include workshops, exhibitions, tours, special community events, murals, art clubs, art scholarships, and work placements. We have also offered professional development workshops for school staff.

As we continue to work with our school partners, we celebrate our many achievements both large and small. Clearly, art plays a significant role in schools and in the daily life of a community. ARTforLIFE celebrates art in its many manifestations. Art informs, inspires, motivates, challenges, and rewards. Art helps us to make sense of the world in which we live, and profoundly touches the lives of all whom are open to its possibilities.

We gratefully acknowledge the support of Affinity Credit Union, who enables us to fulfill our hope that someday each Saskatoon community school will participate in this amazing program.
