Creative, Productive, Critical
GRADES 1-3

ALPHABET ART
$90 per class
Turn letters into visual art. Several techniques or just one for a complete project based on letters or creative writing.

PRINTMAKING
$100 per class
Make prints with markers or rolled ink on Styrofoam. As multi-layered and complex as you want, from monoprints to editions, single images to multiple narratives. No sharp tools.

COLOUR MAGIC
$120 per class
Discover the magic of colour mixing, colour theory, and texture techniques through a range of pigment sources. Includes painting with tissue paper, Kool-Aid, water-soluble pencils, salt, and more.

SCULPTURE STEW
$115 per class
Choose from a range of materials and approaches—build dioramas, make new things from old objects, fold paper, bend wire creatures. Tell us what you want to try.

GRADES 4-6

NEW ART: PERFORMANCE AND INSTALLATION
$90
Discover performance and installation art. Gather a range of fun objects from around the school, and build environments into unusual spaces…the lobby, a washroom, the playground, under desks, the principal’s office. Then add your body movements, voice, and sound. Very process-oriented and sure to engage.

DRAWING BASICS
$90 per class
Create a booklet with pages for lessons on how to draw realistically in pencil. Different pencil and eraser techniques using the artist’s most important tool—the eye! Includes how to use tone to make things look 3D, sighting to measure proportions, perspective, tricks for landscape, and how to draw a face.

ELEMENTS OF ART
$105 per class
Interpret art through the elements of art with markers, oil pastels, and pencil crayons. Self-directed reading, group discussion, and activities. Move around five workstations addressing line, shape, colour/value, texture, and space. Add a follow-up visit workshop with a material of your choice for a total fee of $160.

LETTER AND WORD ART
$90 per class per session
Turn words into visual art. Slides, samples, and demonstrations. Several techniques or just one for a complete project based on creative writing.

MAKING MARIONETTES (grade 6 only)
$190 for 2 sessions
Connect to both the language and visual arts curriculum by constructing characters out of lightweight modeling compound and fabric.

PLASTER BANDAGE SCULPTURE
$170 for 1 session, $210 includes a follow-up session
Choose either maskmaking or 3-D sculpture techniques. For masks, students wrap bandages on each other’s faces and build up the surface. For 3-D sculpture, students wrap armatures. Follow-up visits allow for painting and embellishing.

PRINTMAKING
$100 per class
Make prints with markers or ink rolled on Styrofoam. As multi-layered and complex as you want, from monoprints to editions, single images to multiple narratives. No sharp tools.

ART WITH RECYCLED PARTS
$110 per class
Make art that moves or uses recycled objects. Schools will supplement the Mendel’s supplies by providing items from a pre-agreed list (found objects and some basic art supplies).
1) Recycled Toys: Transform discarded toys into new objects. Learn about form, balance, and assemblage techniques through the process.
2) Kinetic Sculpture: Discuss examples of machines, their basic components, and view Goldberg machines. In small teams construct a moving part and then collaborate to assemble a class project.

GRADES 7-12

ALTERED BOOKS
$110 per class
Alter an existing book to change its message or turn it into an art object.Connect content to current curricula. Cut, paste, paint, draw, fold, and sculpt. School must provide an old book for each student.

Take a fun journey through history with a lively art historian in a powerpoint presentation. Learn the basics of the “artisms” that continue to influence pop culture and artists today.

CONTEMPORARY ART HISTORY
$85 per class
Take an intriguing look at artmaking today with a lively art historian in a powerpoint presentation. Learn how pop culture, global events, art of the past, and social activism have influenced how and why artists currently make things. Lots of great discussion.
