Chief Crowfoot lived from 1830 to 1890. He spent much of his life in the open prairie. Crowfoot and Henderson did not meet each other, thus Henderson would have painted him from a photograph. Chief Crowfoot’s Blackfoot name was Chapo- mexico which means “Crow Big Foot.”
