Call for Submissions: An Art Exhibit by Youth


Noun: People, Places and Things
Presented by Mendel Youth Council at the Mendel Art Gallery

Exhibition March 7—March 30, 2011
Exhibition Reception 7:00 p.m., March 11, 2011

Noun: People, Places and Things is an exhibit of photographs documenting teen identity and teen life. Saskatoon high school-aged youth are encouraged to submit photographic work that tells a story or represents the people, places and things that make teens unique.

Photographs can be any colour, retouched or not, digital or film, and of any physical size. There is a limit of 15 photographs per applicant. Photographs that are submitted in electronic form will be considered but only as a slideshow presentation during the exhibit; already printed photographs will be exhibited traditionally upon acceptance.

Deadline for submissions is Wednesday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m.

There are three options for work submission:
1) Digital work may be submitted via email.
2) Work may be submitted via post.
3) Work may be submitted in person.

All applicants will be contacted after March 2 regarding the success of their submissions. At that time, arrangements for return of the artwork will be discussed.

What is Noun: People, Places and Things?

Mendel Youth Council is offering opportunities for Saskatoon youth to present their artistic talents in a gallery setting. Noun: People, Places and Things is an exhibit of photo-graphs documenting teen identity and teen life. Saskatoon youth are encouraged to submit photographic work that tells a story or represents the people, places and things that make teens unique. Photographs can be any colour, retouched or not, digital or film, and of any physical size. There is a limit of 15 photographs per applicant. Photographs that are sub-mitted in electronic form will be considered, but only as a slideshow presentation during the exhibit; already printed photographs will be exhibited traditionally upon acceptance.

The artwork is not insured, and the Mendel Art Gallery will take precautions to exhibit all pieces as safely as possible in the auditorium.

Who can be in the exhibit?

Mendel Youth Council is looking for submissions from high school-aged artists from Saskatoon and area. Last year’s exhibition was a huge success, so this is your chance to be part of MYC’s great programming!

How can I submit my work and receive it back?

Deadline for submissions is Wednesday, March 2 at 7 p.m.

There are three options for work submission:

1) Digital work may be submitted via email. Send images to acollinsbretell@mendel.ca as JPEG attachments.

2) Work may be submitted via post; please assure that the work is postmarked prior to March 2. Send a DVD containing JPEG images or printed photographs to:

3) Work may be submitted in person on March 2 from 5-7 p.m. JPEG images on a DVD or printed photographs can be brought to studioXPRESS at the Mendel Art Gallery, 950 Spadina Cres. East.

The artist’s name, grade, school and contact information must be included with the submission in order for the work to be considered for the exhibit.

What is Mendel Youth Council?

Mendel Youth Council is a group of students from high schools across Saskatoon who have a passion for art. They meet bi-weekly at the Mendel Art Gallery to identify, organize, design, and market events and programs for other youth. Members gain unique art experience in a gallery setting, and provide a voice for young people in the art community in Saskatoon.
